Community Services - ALP Motion

28 October 2005

On Saturday 8 October ASU organisers and activists from the Community Services Sector braved the icy cold and torrential downpours to stand outside the entrance to the Festival Centre between 8:30 and 9:30 am. Why would we do this?

It was the weekend of the ALP Convention and our aim was to personally urge each and every delegate to endorse a motion proposed by the ASU and LHMU to support fair wages and conditions for Community Service workers. While the weather appeared to have scared off many of our usual activists, we did manage to achieve our goal, which was that convention delegates overwhelmingly voted in support of the motion. We need to remember that numbers talk when it comes to politicians so if we are to build the momentum of the Community Services Campaign we're going to need your support.
