Your Rights at Work - Day of Protest15 November 2005Your ASU SA Branch was out in strength today joining with the 25,000 community members and workers at Elder Park in Adelaide , hundreds or our members and their families in 14 regional centres across South Australia and hundreds of thousands of workers across Australia for the Sky channel hookup.
This was Australia's biggest Community Protest ever - making history - to tell Howard's Government that we will not be intimidated by his IR ideology and workplace changes, and to put them on notice that this is the beginning of the campaign to fight this legislation and arrogance all the way to the next election. Following the Protest many of the gathered workers and community members marched from Elder Park to 100 King William Street - the offices of many of the Liberal parliamentarians who support this bill. Among chants of 'The Workers United - Will Never Be Defeated' and 'Our Rights at Work - Worth Fighting For', Janet Giles, Secretary of SA Unions (UTLC) addressed the crowd. So many were there that we spread right along King William Street from 100 - back to North Terrace. A sea of union flags and thousands of people concerned at and prepared to fight for, our wages, conditions and a fair go. The fight has just begun - we WILL build the community movement for change and we invite you to participate with us every step of the way.
