Petition Signing at NCR Pays Off!

NSW Delegate Mark Potter, National Industrial Officer Jo Justo and NSW Services Branch Organiser Bill Croslow met with NCR representatives to present the petitions which have
been signed by over 75% of employees around Australia. The petitions demanded that NCR enter into negotiations for an enterprise agreement and that employees wished the
ASU to bargain on their behalf.
NCR representatives were surprised at the number of signatures demanding an agreement as they had received a very small number of replies to their survey. NCR have heard loud and clear that ASU members and employees across the country very definitely wish to engage in developing a fair,productive and beneficial for all enterprise agreement.
ASU Delegates connect
ASU Delegates have been considering a series of steps to be taken across the country in order to assist NCR understand the level of frustration being felt by employees that NCR would not bargain for an agreement. These considerations have included a range of actions that ASU members may take in the event that NCR choose not to bargain with us. You need to speak to your ASU Delegate to make sure you are up to date with the latest information.
What happens now?
NCR have committed to respond to the ASU by 4.00pm Friday 25 November 2005 with their answer on the issue of bargaining with the ASU. During the petition presentation meeting, the ASU advised NCR that we desired rolling over our Award into the agreement along with negotiating the items from our Log of Claims. We also asked that issues surrounding the start of day be included.
ASU delegates committed that we would take no industrial action prior to hearing from NCR in order that
they consult management currently overseas. Delegates will be advised as soon as possible after we
hear from NCR as to their decision.
Important information
If in the circumstance that you are forced into taking industrial action by NCR's refusal to bargain, then it
is important to remember that the Workplace Relations Act provides protection for union members during this period. You MUST be a union member to receive this protection which includes: your employer cannot 'injure' you for participating in industrial action i.e. dismiss you, bullying, harass or intimidate you.
