ACTU Billboard Campaign - Help the Fight for Your Rights at Work

13 October 2006

When John Howard visits Melbourne next month, he will get a nasty shock when he looks out the window of his chauffeur-driven car.

Dear friend,

When John Howard visits Melbourne next month, he will get a nasty shock when he looks out the window of his chauffeur-driven car.

The ACTU has reserved a billboard on Melbourne's Tullamarine Freeway for the entire month of November. At least 60,000 vehicles pass directly under the billboard per day. If we can put up a Rights at Work billboard from November 1, more than 1.86 million vehicles, many carrying several passengers, will pass by in the lead up to the November 30 National Day of Protest.

Donate now to fund a Rights at Work billboard on one of Australia's busiest roads!

ACTU Billboard Campaign

In advertising terms, the Tullamarine Freeway Bridge site is one of the best advertising locations in Australia. It's the only route to the Melbourne CBD from the Airport for interstate and international travelers. The billboard is high impact and impossible to ignore.

Over the past month alone, John Howard, Peter Costello and Kevin Andrews have all driven down this road, along with more than 2 million other people. We need your help to keep the Rights at Work campaign front and centre in Australians' minds.

This is the first time the ACTU has ever booked such a high impact advertising space. It's a huge gamble. Billboards like this do not come cheap and this one will cost $40, 000.

But the pay off is potentially enormous: more than 2 million people from all over Australia and the world will see this billboard. It will boost the numbers at the November 30 protest and give unprecedented prominence to the Rights at Work campaign.

Donate online now using our secure website. ACTU Billboard Campaign

All the billboards will advertise November 30, and we will alternate the following three slogans:

Unfair IR laws hurt working families

63% of new contracts scrap penalty rates. Can your family afford the new IR laws?

IR laws freeze wages for 1.5 million workers. What will the IR laws cost your family?

You can only imagine how John Howard will feel reading this when he looks up from his cabinet papers the next time he visits Melbourne. November 30 is fast approaching and we need your help now.

Any donation, big or small, will bring us a step closer to realizing our goal, and will send a message to all politicians that we will fight for our rights at work.

Many thanks,

Sharan Burrow, Greg Combet, and

The Rights at Work campaign team
