2010 Mothers Day Classic Women’s Rights At Work Teams

19 April 2010

On Sunday 9 May 2010, for the first time, the Mothers Day Classic fun run or walk will feature a national Union team promoting Women’s Rights in every capital city event. The team is called ‘Women’s Rights At Work’.

This year the ACTU and state based Trades and Labour Councils have come together to co-ordinate this national team and we encourage Union members and their friends, colleagues and families to get involved in this great event and support two important community campaigns - breast cancer research and the National Equal Pay Campaign. A limited amount of stickers promoting the National Equal Pay Campaign and team merchandise will be available to registered participants on the day. As you may be aware, the ASU is working hard to achieve equal pay through its pay equity case and campaign for the community sector.

The Mothers Day Classic, Australia's largest not for profit fun walk or run, raises vital funds to support the work of the National Breast Cancer Foundation. The event was established in 1998 and has grown to operate in every capital city and some regional areas on Mothers Day each year. Since 1998, the Mother's Day Classic has raised $4.4 million for the National Breast Cancer Foundation's research programs, which has directly contributed towards vital research projects.

Members Equity Bank (ME) is the national major sponsor and is proud to join the community in the fight against breast cancer.

For more information and for instructions on how to register to join the Women's Rights at Work team for your local event, please visit memberconnect.com.au or call your ASU office.

For more information on the ASU's pay equity case and campaign and how you can help, please also contact your ASU office. Please feel free to forward this info onto other members and workers in your organization and your families and friends.

Kind regards and hope to see you running/walking on 9 May!
