Anna Stewart Memorial Project 2011

The Anna Stewart Memorial Project (ASMP) is one of Australia’s longest running and most successful women’s mentoring programmes.

This year it will be held for two weeks from 23 May to 3 June 2011.

The programme is an experiential learning one designed to give women an insight into how Unions operate and how women can be more active in their Union.

Women Union members from different Unions come together to learn more about the Union movement, how their Union works, organising and industrial relations systems and processes by participating in formal education sessions and by work shadowing Union staff. They become involved in the issues which are important to members and meet with other organisations which interact with Unions.

The first Anna Stewart Memorial Project was held in Victoria in 1984.

The project aims to increase women's active Union involvement and to provide women members with enhanced knowledge and skills.

Former ASMP participant and now ASU Organiser Lesley Till says of the programme: "Participating in the ASMP is a very special and inspirational experience which leaves you with a much better understanding of how your Union operates, an increased desire to be active in your workplace and a feeling of connectedness and support. Once you've done the programme, you will never look back!"
